Taigh Iomhair is a traditional stone built cottage which originally had
a thatched roof. It was the croft-house on this croft until
25 years ago when the current croft house was built. It
then remained unocuppied for a number of years until twelve
years ago when we decided to renovate it and this has brought
it to a very comfortable and cosy standard while retaining
it's character as far as possible.
The
cottage is in a very pleasant and peaceful setting with
a sea view across to the island of Scalpay, the bays area
on the East coast of Harris and the Isle of Skye in the
distance.
Sea-birds
are an everyday sight and seals and otters put in a regular
appearance to have a look at what is happening on shore!!
Across
the bay from the cottage is the island of Scalpay (population
approx 300) and it is now accessible by bridge which is
one mile from the cottage. On Scalpay you will find a post
office and shop where you can buy newspapers and basic groceries.
